About the EPF Calculator
The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a retirement savings scheme where you and your employer contribute a portion of your salary each month, earning annual interest. This calculator gives a simplified estimate of your EPF corpus from your Basic + DA, the interest rate and your years of service.
How EPF contributions work
Typically you contribute 12% of Basic + DA and your employer contributes 12% — of which 8.33% (up to a ceiling) goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and 3.67% to EPF. This calculator uses the simplified employee 12% + employer 3.67% going to EPF. Your actual balance depends on the exact splits, the ceiling and wage growth.
EPF Calculator — frequently asked questions
How is EPF interest calculated?
Interest is declared annually by the government and credited on the running balance. This calculator compounds the monthly contributions at the rate you choose.
Is EPF enough for retirement?
EPF is a solid, safe base, but many people supplement it with market-linked investments like mutual funds to build a larger retirement corpus over time.
Is EPF taxable?
EPF enjoys favourable tax treatment, and the maturity amount is generally tax-free subject to conditions (such as continuous service). Interest on very high contributions can be taxable. Consult a tax advisor.
