Step 1 — Open a demat & trading account
To buy shares you need a demat account (to hold them) and a trading account (to place orders). On ROAR you open both together in about 10 minutes with paperless Aadhaar eKYC. Keep your PAN, Aadhaar and bank details handy.
Step 2 — Add funds
Transfer money to your trading account instantly via UPI or net banking. You only need enough for the shares you want to buy, plus small statutory charges.
Step 3 — Find the stock and place an order
Search for the company by name or symbol, review its live price and chart, then place an order.
- Market order — buys immediately at the best available price.
- Limit order — buys only at your chosen price or lower.
- Quantity — enter how many shares you want.
- Product type — choose delivery (to hold) or intraday (to square off same day).
Step 4 — Track your investment
Once your order executes, delivery shares are credited to your demat account on a T+1 basis. Track your holdings, returns and dividends in your portfolio. Equity delivery is ₹0 brokerage on ROAR.
Tips for first-time buyers
Start small, understand what the company does, diversify across a few stocks or add an index fund, and avoid borrowing to invest. Investing is a long-term game — not a lottery.
Frequently asked questions
How much money do I need to start buying shares?
There is no minimum — you can buy a single share. Many investors start with a few thousand rupees and add regularly.
Can I buy shares without a demat account?
No. A demat account is required to hold shares electronically. ROAR opens a demat and trading account together, free and paperless.
What time can I buy shares?
The equity market is open 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM on weekdays (excluding holidays). You can place orders anytime; they queue for market hours.
Is buying shares safe?
Buying through a SEBI-registered broker is safe operationally — your shares sit in your own demat account. Market risk, however, always applies: share prices can rise or fall.
