About the Home Loan EMI Calculator
Planning a home loan? Enter the loan amount, interest rate and tenure, and this calculator shows your monthly EMI, the total interest you’ll pay and the total amount repaid over the loan, so you can budget with confidence.
How your EMI is worked out
An EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) covers both principal and interest. In the early years most of the EMI is interest; over time more goes to principal. A longer tenure lowers the EMI but raises total interest, and vice versa.
Tips to reduce your interest
A larger down payment, a shorter tenure, or periodic part-prepayments can meaningfully cut the total interest on a home loan. Even a small rate difference adds up over 20 years.
Home Loan EMI Calculator — frequently asked questions
How is a home loan EMI calculated?
EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan, r the monthly rate and n the number of months. This calculator does it instantly.
Does a longer tenure reduce my EMI?
Yes, a longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but increases the total interest paid over the loan. A shorter tenure does the opposite.
How can I lower my total interest?
A bigger down payment, a shorter tenure, or part-prepayments reduce the interest. Refinancing at a lower rate can also help.
